At its height in the 10th and 11th centuries, the Fatimids established one of the greatest civilizations in the world, influencing knowledge and culture throughout the Mediterranean, Europe, and the Near East.

Design of Exhibition

A collection of objects ranging wildly in size and materiality were put on display. Large building fragments were placed within architecturally proportioned set works that helped divide the space into four zones.

A large curved projector screen visible through an arch displayed images of contemporary Cairo and significant buildings dating back to the Fatimid era. The toned-down materiality and colour palette combined with controlled and precise lighting, allowed the objects to be displayed and viewed at their best.
